GERMY OUR HERO!!!!!!

Tags : Infectious Disease Emergency Touch & Go

Once upon a time, there lived a 5-year- old male dog, a German shepherd by the name Germy. He was adopted by an NGO when he was found wandering the streets in a miserable state. This was when they came to know about Heart2Heart and immediately bought her in.

On discussions over her previous reports, we came to know that Germy was running a high temperature more than how much it could withstand. It was completely drained and it couldn’t move at all. The blood level in the body was very low and it was running its life at this level. Also he had a yellowish eye discharge due to the low blood level.

We decided to go with a deep analysis to get an in depth knowledge of what was actually happening to her. Our clinical lab held up several tests such as the CBC, renal profile, liver profile, thorax and abdominal radiographs, canine distemper and Ehrlichia canis rapid test and we came to know that he was suffering from a serious viral illness known as the canine distemper and Ehrlichiosis - a bacterial illness transmitted by ticks that causes flu.

So post analysis and discussions we decided to try blood transfusion. For this, a donor dog was arranged by the NGO people which made our work easy and we went on with the process.

Just a few days later, believe it or not! Germy showed a very good and speedyimprovement. He recovered completely from the illness and her intake of food was back to normal. Germy was a real time hero and is still in the heart of many people at H2H.

EASE OF PAIN

Tags : kidney Emergency Ehrlichiosis

There was once this boy called dalmy who was admitted in H2H for the assessment of urinary tract infection and paralysis attack. He was a 13-year-old boy and was affected with this since he was 10 years old. He was treated locally by his regular veterinarian who gave him antibiotics which was effective then but no longer worked out for him and he was growing thinner by the day. This is when he was referred to Heart2Heart.

To give him effective treatments, Dalmy was admitted to H2H and diagnosis was done as to know what was the actual cause for this. On analysis of the pet, we found he was suffering from Ehrlichiosis. His right hind limb was completely paralyzed and the left one partially paralyzed.

CBC, X-rays and Urinalysis were done to give exact reasons. On CBC, it was revealed that there was a rise in creatine level due to kidney failure. X-rays showed the presence of urinary bladder stones blocked in the penile urethra and Urinalysis proved that there were uric acid stones in the bladder.

So immediately treatments begun and we gave diet plans and medications to dissolve the stones present. Also the penile urethral calculi were pushed back to its own position by retrograde urohydropropulsion procedure to avoid trauma. Heat and physical therapies were given to treat the paralyzed legs.

Within a week, he started walking and eating normally and slowly Ehrlichiosis was also cured. In a few weeks, the stones also disappeared. But the problem with this dog was, even though the stones disappeared, it will reappear genetically again. On regular checkups and monitoring, this can be treated. We are extremely thankful to the parent for believing in us!!!!!!!!!!

ANXIETY TO HAPPINESS

Tags : wheezing Emergency calcium deficiency milk feve

Cleo, a handsome 2-year-old pug was admitted for emergency care at our H2H hospital. The last 4 hours before his admission, he was suffering from wheezing and some untold discomfort. All the family members, because of his strange behavior were worried and came along with him to the hospital for his treatment. Such a loving family, we would say!

On preliminary analysis, the patient had a high temperature, increased heart rate, with a very bad increase in the respiratory effort. The mucous membrane was a little congested and the amount of blood flow was less than 2 seconds, therefore oxygenation of the pet was deemed sufficient and flow by oxygen was required.

On examinations, we found the dog’s mammary glands and the milk secretion teats were engorged. Investigating this further, Cleo had recently given birth and was apparently suffering from calcium deficiency. This calcium deficiency is called the milk fever, eclampsia or the parathormone imbalance because of which he was suffering from the wheezing.

On diagnosis, we started immediate treatments. For half an hour, the calcium gluconate and five percent dextrose was given to the pug. After sometime, the temperature lowered down and it was back to its normal self. It completely recovered from the fever to the family’s surprise.

We provided them with additional supplements to avoid future problems. Hence they lived happily ever after.

THICK AND THIN

Respiratory Group 1 Tags : tachypnea cough tracheal collapse Emergency

There was this unusual case of a dog called Chilli which was admitted to Heart2Heart as an emergency case. On learning about it, it was suffering from a cough and tachypnea.

On preliminary analysis, the patient had a normal temperature, increased heart rate, with a slight increase in the respiratory effort and productive cough. The mucous membrane was a little congested and the amount of blood flow was about one and half seconds, therefore oxygenation of the pet was deemed sufficient and no flow by oxygen was required.

Also, the pug was in a very much obese condition. Also just because of his trachea issue, he had a breathing problem.

X-rays were taken to check the trachea and lungs and also diagnose whether the respiratory problems were happening because of the trachea or the lungs. The end results showed that that was a tracheal collapse in the cervical region (airway obstruction) and the functioning of heart was normal.

The main cause of these problems was because of the dog’s functional structure and its obese condition. The drugs benzodiazepam, prednisolone, butorphanol were respectively given for tracheal collapse, cough and respiratory problems and monitored closely.

Within an hour, the pug recovered and it was so active. Post these drugs, another set of drugs codeine, prednisolone, diazepam was given to check its activity. In no time it came to its normal self and started playing around.

It was discharged the same evening and was asked to go on a regular diet to avoid problems. Now when we see him, its as active as a young dog and got back to its actual weight.

BACK TO FORM GIRL

Tags : paralysis Emergency tick infestation blood parasitic infection

Not being a Narcissistic, but to talk about our achievement Ghani. She was an 8-year-old pooch who was referred to Heart2Heart sometime back. She was admitted with case of paralysis. All her hind limbs were paralyzed and she was completely dehydrated because of which her food intake became very less. Her local treatments proved no improvement.

Our in house diagnostic lab provided her with a series of tests such as the spine and abdominal radiographs, complete blood count and serum chemistry analysis.

X-rays showed that the intestine was totally swollen with obstipated faeces and not constipated faeces and it was treated by sodium phosphate enema and the dehydration by fluid management. Also the spine and abdominal radiographs showed that paralysis was caused because of irritation in nerve roots due to which he was suffering from neck pain too. The other tests revealed that he had tick infestation. Treatments commenced immediately.

CBC tests proved to be normal. Physical, hydro and heat therapies were initiated for paralysis and other medications for blood parasitic infection.

Within a few weeks, it showed signs of movement and very soon recovered back to its normal form. The doctors were exclaimed with its improvement.

The doctors say “we still remember her, how she used to play with us and we got accustomed to her”. Later she was discharged and led an active lifestyle. Now also the doctors are fond of her and remember her with the name of “Back To Form Girl”.

CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE!

Tags : urinary bladder rupture Emergency cystorrhaphy surgery

There was this family which was vacationing out in Chennai with their puppy. On travelling, unfortunately the dog met out with an accident. When a human meet with an accident, he is in the state of shock. Similarly, is the state of the dog. Immediately, it was rushed to Heart2Heart hospital.

On preliminary tests, the case was not serious and we gave him treatments for his injury.

Few days later, it was brought back to us. It seemed like a serious condition. It had a pot belly appearance. On diagnosis found that it was suffering from a urinary bladder rupture. Due to this, the dog was finding it difficult to urinate.

A book is a set of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of ink, paper, parchment, or other materials, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A single sheet within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A book produced in electronic format is known as an electronic book (e-book).

Since it was an emergency case, the vets had to think fast and had to take action ASAP. They came up with the cystorrhaphy surgery. The surgery was nothing but to put stiches around the rupture of the urinary bladder. The surgery went on for hours.

Soon the puppy recovered and it was given supplements and medicine to heal the wound. Also they lived happily ever after.

TWISTS AND TURNS!!

Tags : diarrhea Ulcer Contrast radiography splenic torsion GDV intussusception gastropexy Surgery

There was this unique case of Hugho which came up to the vets at Heart2Heart. The dog was admitted when there was a constant diarrhea and the parents didn’t know what to do about it.

On preliminary tests, the vets found that the dog was suffering from Ulcer. So they gave him the basic medication and discharged him home. But it was of no use. The dog when diagnosed comprehensively, found the dog was fed with a protein powder that was highly recommended for humans.

The vets decided to take a deep analysis and went on with the Contrast radiography. This method is to study the proper visibility of the problems inside the body.

The X-ray revealed that the dog was affected with a case of GDV with splenic torsion which is the stomach was twisted and there was liver ligament rupture. Also the liver was displaced to the right.

So the vets went on with the process of intussusception treatment which could bring back the stomach to its original position.

Also the dog underwent gastropexy which fixes the stomach with the abdomen so as to avoid further problems. Also the doctors manually repositioned the liver and the spine.

The procedure went on so much time that the parents were so worried. Then the process got over and the surgery was a huge success.

Hugho took some time to recover as it was a major operation. Now he is all healthy and fit. He is able to do his activities as before.

MEET CHUNGY OUR LITTLE HAMSTER!

Tags : diarrhea Rectal Prolapse colopexy surgery

There was this hamster called chungy which came which was admitted in Heart2Heart sometime back. It was brought to the hospital with the problem of diarrhea and the parents weren’t aware and kept feeding the hamster with the rich food.

On preliminary tests, we examined that Chungy was unable to excrete and because of which it was suffering from diarrhea. Our vets tried giving it some antibiotics but was of no use. On further comprehensive analysis, the vets diagnosed the pet was affected with Rectal Prolapse.

Rectal prolapse is the condition where the rectum (the final section of the large intestine) is covered by the layers of the anus. This causes the diarrhea and constipation. Because of this, Hamster was straining itself completely to excrete.

To overcome this problem, the vets had to make arrangements for the colopexy surgery which had to cut up the colon from both the sides and attach it with the abdomen.

The hamster underwent this surgery and it lasted for hours. A few days later, it started recovering slowly. Its diarrhea reduced and it started excreting on a timely basis.

It was a challenging surgery for both the vets as well as the pet parents.

THE TINY ONE TREATED!!!

Tags : eye infection eye trauma surgery

Not always do we get cases of cats and dogs but small animals too! One such rare case was the case of Aggy the hamster. One would wonder how such a small animal can get affected with a disease, so did we!!!!!!!!!

It was admitted with a serious condition of eye infection where its eyeballs were enlarged and bulged out. Its eyes were red and watery and it wasn’t even able to open its eyes.

First the doctors thought it was just an infection but on deep diagnosis found Aggy to be severely infected with eye trauma because of which the eyeball were enlarged and bulged out.

So the vets decided to go in for the Enucleation surgery which resulted in removal of the eyeball and closing the eye permanently. If not treated immediately, the infection would spread to the brain and may cause the pet to die.

So the vets went on with the surgery and soon Aggy’s eye ball was removed and one of his eyes were closed. A few weeks went by and there was finally back to normal and he started following his daily routine.

Blacky a cute dog was once admitted at Heart2Heart a few days back. The parents were worried about him as he wasn’t able to run and wasn’t active as before. Whenever he was asked to do something, he used to stand with a bent leg. First the parents thought he was tired because of which he wasn’t able to stand properly but as days went on, the dog was getting weaker and then only was admitted.

On preliminary tests, it was found that the dog had multiple fractures. Because of these fractures, the dog was suffering from Partial rupture due to which the dog’s legs were in a bent posture. Also the results from the X-rays revealed that the dog was affected with ureteral damage.

Before the case could serious, correction needed to be done. Subserosal surgery was the necessary treatment for the pet. So our vets decided to proceed with the surgery. The surgery was nothing but to remove Blacky’s uterus. The surgery took place for a few hours.

The surgery was a big success and the parents were so happy and had no words to thank the vets. The puppy was kept in observation for a few days. It showed so much improvement in such a short span.

Blacky was soon discharged and lived happily with his family.
